CURRENT EXHIBITION
We’re Taking a Break…
We’re taking some time to be mad/sad/disappointed, but we will be back soon. Sometimes you just need to stop and regroup.
If you are already past the grief stage and would like to donate time or money to a good cause, here are just a few that we like to support:

Kassy Kova
Kassy Kova’s body is a vessel of expression. Her mission is to explore the potential intersection between visual art and movement. She uses the energy of dance movement as a medium in order to capture its tangible remnant.
Her work surrounds themes of human existence, racial injustice, detrimental prejudice. Furthermore, her works aim to evaluate an individual's own cultural and racial identity in a globalized world.
Kassy Kova currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. She holds a BA in Visual Arts: Art History and Criticism, and is currently enrolled in the Metafora Studio Arts Program.
The Spite Haus will screen two works, “Somewhat Black and White” and “Reflected Dimensions”, beginning May 13th and continuing through the month of June.

Anthony Iacono
The Spite Haus presents Edge Play, an exhibition of recent drawings by Anthony Iacono, a New York based artist who works primarily in collage from painted papers. Influenced by the aesthetics of print and posters, Iacono depicts queer figures in seemingly mundane scenarios that are offset with coded language and suspense. In this group of new drawings, he focuses on objects, and magnifies into the anonymous figure for a zoomed in perspective on the body. Though we never explicitly see skin, the body is implied through garments and accessories.
Opening November 12 from 4 - 8 PM. Artist will be present.
Sam Jaffe
Characterized by wacky, toxic color and overstuffed, mutated forms, Sam Jaffe’s recent work explores labor, folk and domestic art traditions, ornamentation, collecting behaviors, femininity, and the grotesque fallibility of the human body. All art materials are recycled, reused, repurposed, dead-stock, vintage, or otherwise sustainably sourced.
Sam received her BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2005 and her MFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 2009. Sam Jaffe is an artist currently living and working in Chicago, IL.
Opening Oct 8 from 6 - 8 PM.

MAGNOLIA LAURIE: TO RISE AND FALL
“Within my paintings and installations, the structures and systems created are illogical; they are delicate and makeshift in a way that may not endure their own weight, let alone the impending disruptions. Yet, they are made, and to me they reference the sustained need to try, to build, to create, even in the face of complete futility. They depict the instinctive, sometimes manic, and desperate human act of building and within them I am thinking about the cyclical rise and fall of civilizations.” - Artist Statement
